The recently established Guyana Gym Owners and Trainers Association (GGOTA) have dispatched letters to the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Health seeking dialogue to propose the safe reopening of gyms and fitness centres.
While neighboring countries and Caribbean islands have reopened gym doors and fitness centres using safety guidelines stipulated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the gyms here which have been shuttered since March remain closed.
The dispatching of the letters comes amidst growing calls from many in the sports fraternity for the relevant authorities to reopen sports facilities in a safe manner to allow athletes some form of recreation and training.
