Dear Editor,
I am of the opinion that as a people we need to offer support and do whatever we can to solve the CJIA expansion project fiasco.
For some time now I have been saying that if a hard line as per the Contract Document is not taken with the Contractor of the CJIA expansion project that we might have in the making another “Sanata Textile Mill construction contract scandal”; when I read, investigated, researched and analyzed what was taking place over the years with the supervision and execution of the works of this project I came to the conclusion that the project would have turned out to be a very scandalous project.
And while I am on to scandalous projects I note with much concern and amusement that we have officialdom visiting the GGMC High Street building. I believe that over the years many high- powered site visits have been made, volumes of technical reports have been written and good amounts of consultancy fees have been paid to try and ascertain what needs to be done to make the building safe for occupancy but it remains in the same condition.
I also note that some of the main actors who were responsible in the first instance for the poor supervision and execution of the works on this project are still around and might be positioning themselves to get a second or third bite of the cherry as “brand new second or third hand specialist”.
Editor, I am of the opinion that we need to be very cautious, cover all our bases and do whatever we have to do, without strings attached to correct the situation at the CJIA expansion project.
Yours faithfully,
Dunstan Barrow AA
