A police sergeant is now hospitalized after the ATV CG 2122 which he was on crashed into a speed bump on the Puruni Trail causing him and a police constable to fall. Both were pillion riders on the ATV.
The injured sergeant has been identified as 46-year-old Kester Moriah who is stationed at the Bartica Police Station. He is currently nursing abrasions to his head and about his body at the Bartica Regional Hospital. His condition is listed as stable.
According to a police report, the ATV which was being ridden by a 47-year-old resident of Bartica had transported Moriah and police constable, 25-year-old Shaquille Downer, also of the Bartica Police Station, to the Puruni Backdam, to investigate a report of simple larceny. It was on their way back to Bartica that the accident occurred at about 5.20 pm.
Enquiries revealed that the rider was proceeding north along the trail and was speeding when he crashed into the speed bump and lost control of the vehicle, causing both policemen to fall onto the trail. Moriah was said to have been picked up from the trail in a semi-conscious state and transferred to the hospital where he was admitted as a patient.
