A biker died yesterday morning after he apparently lost control of his speeding motorcycle along the Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road.
Dead is Joshua Persaud, 24, of Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD.
Persaud’s friend, Devendra Partab, 27, of Avenue ‘A’ Diamond New Scheme, EBD, who the police said was the pillion rider at the time was also injured.
Both men were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where Persaud was pronounced dead. Partab was admitted as a patient.
While the police said that Persaud was the rider of the motorcycle, registration unknown, the dead man’s family said he does not know to ride a motorcycle and was the pillion rider at the time.
The police in a press release said that the motorcycle was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the Persaud lost control.
As a result, both Persaud and Partab fell on the roadway and sustained injuries about their bodies.
Persaud’s brother-in-law, Shazam Ally told Stabroek News last night that prior to the accident, he along with some friends including Partab were at a bar in Land of Canaan, EBD.
According to Ally, as time passed by and Persaud did not returned home his sister became worried and ventured out to search for him.
Ally said Persaud’s sister eventually found him at the bar and he agreed to go home.
He added that Persaud and Partab left but instead of going home they went to another bar. “He (Persaud’s) sister said she was behind the bike all the time and she thought he was going home, so she went home and they went to another bar,” Ally said.
Shortly after arriving home, Ally said that Persaud’s sister received the news that he was in an accident and that he had died.
Persaud leaves to mourn his three children. The youngest is two-months-old.
