A Meten-Meer-Zorg labourer has succumbed after being stabbed by a drinking companion on Sunday, just two days before he was due to celebrate his 21st birthday.
The Guyana Police Force said Keron Williams, of Ocean Garden, West Coast Demerara, and a suspect known as “Grasie” were drinking at a nearby shop after which Williams was discovered with stab wounds to his left shoulder.
He was later taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital by his employer and friends but succumbed to his injuries around 5.20 pm.
An aunt of the deceased, Susan Williams, told this newspaper that she was told that Williams threw a bicycle at the suspect and was about to hit him when the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed him before running off.
Williams had relocated from the interior to live with Susan eight years ago.
Up to last evening the suspect was still on the run.
