A 19-year-old motorcyclist is currently hospitalised after he was injured in a three-vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Bartica.
Police identified the injured youth as Martin Subratie, of Carabese Hill, Bartica.
A Guyana Police Force statement said the accident occurred around 6.20 pm along Four Miles, Potaro Road, Bartica.
Bartica Mayor Gifford Marshall was driving one of the vehicles, PWW 7126, involved in the accident. Both Marshall and another driver have been released on station bail pending the outcome of the investigation into the accident.
At the time, Subratie was the rider of motorcycle CK 5078.
The police have so far determined that Marshall was proceeding north along the west side of the road at a moderate speed while another vehicle, PTT 8073, driven by Rudolph Marshall, 38, who was proceeding south along the eastern side of the said road.
Subratie was proceeding behind Rudolph, the police said.
Rudolph alleged that he was blinded by the lights from the mayor’s vehicle. As a result, he said he slowed down and Subratie collided with his vehicle. Subratie resultantly lost control and collided with Marshall’s vehicle.
He was subsequently picked up from the road and taken to the Bartica Hospital, where he was admitted for observation. His condition is listed as stable.
