Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon yesterday congratulated United States President-elect Joseph Biden on his victory at the November 3rd general elections.
In a letter sent to Biden yesterday, Harmon said that the people of Guyana, including those in the United States, rejoice at news of his election to the White House. He noted the historic election of Senator Kamala Harris as Biden’s Vice President as she will be the first woman and first person of colour to be elected to the Vice Presidency.
“Our nation looks forward to engaging with you, Vice President-elect Harris and your Cabinet in strengthening bilateral relations and building a stronger and more unified CARICOM and Caribbean basin,” he wrote.
Harmon, the leader of the main opposition APNU+AFC coalition, added that he also looked forward to briefing Biden and Harris on the political situation in Guyana.
“We commit to working with you to rebuild trust between our peoples, strengthening goodwill and re-establishing constitutional democracy and social cohesion in Guyana after a recent period of political and social turmoil and distress,” he wrote.
“I wish you a successful term in the White House as you embark on serving the people of the United States, providing hemispheric and global leadership and the unenviable task of restoring the United States’ status and reputation globally,” he added.
