When Delhi Capitals takes on Mumbai Indians in the final of the 2020 Indian Premier League today at 10.00 hours, Shimron Hetmyer will be making his dream a reality.
Hetmyer, along with Keemo Paul are with Delhi Capitals while Sherfane Rutherford is with Mumbai Indians, making history with all three Guyanese players in the tournament heading to the final where at the very least one, or two will be able to help lift the trophy.
The 23-year-old Hetmyer spoke just after their successful playoff match on Delhi Capitals TV about what it meant to reach so far in the tournament and conquering the final hurdle.
“It’s a dream come through for me as well. I’ve always wanted to play an IPL final as well so as I said it’s really a dream come through,” he said.
The left-handed middle order clobbered an unbeaten 42 from just 22 balls to push his side to an imposing total before their bowlers did their job.
Speaking about that match, the former Under-19 World Cup winning captain explained, “I felt everything really came off for us, we had a fantastic start with the bat and then even in the middle overs we kept our pace going and then just coming, just finishing the game as well as we did and that was just great from us with the bat and then to go into the field and do what we did and get one of their main batsmen out in the second over of the game…all round it was a good performance.”
The West Indian added, “It’s just for us to recuperate and do the same in the next game.” He indicated that everyone was doing their part with the team coming together nicely.
According to Hetmyer, it’s just for players to continue to take up the responsibility to get them over the line.
The Cumberland, Berbice native has featured in 11 matches and chalked up 180 runs from 10 innings. His strike rate of 150 is the best for any batsman in his side with a minimum of five matches.a
