The National COVID-19 Task Force is deploying members of the Joint Services to St Cuthbert’s Mission amid reports that lockdown protocols are being breached.
More than two weeks ago, multiple cases of COVID-19 were detected in the Region Four community which led to the Ministry along with the Village Council imposing a lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
Providing an update on the situation yesterday, Ministry of Health (MoH) spokesperson Daniel Singh said that the Ministry received reports that some persons living in the community are not adhering to the lockdown measures so members of the Joint Services are being sent to ensure that the measures are followed.
“The Task Force is coordinating with the MoH, GDF (Guyana Defence Force), GPF (Guyana Police Force) to conduct COVIcurb patrols in St. Cuthbert’s Mission for the next ten days to assist with enforcing the lockdown,” Singh said, before adding that this is expected to commence today.
Meanwhile, during a COVID-19 update, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony revealed that following additional testing done on Tuesday there are now 145 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the community.
“Yesterday we took off an additional set of swabs and as of today (yesterday) we have about 145 cases of COVID-19 in St. Cuthbert’s and we expect as we continue testing we will find more persons who will test positive,” he said.
He revealed that another doctor has been dispatched to the community to assist the other healthcare workers in the community. He added that active COVID-19 cases in the community are being monitored carefully and once someone starts developing severe symptoms of the virus, they are transferred to a health facility in Georgetown.
