The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) Safe tennis male tournament got going at the weekend with a few seasoned campaigners stroking their way into winner’s row.
Only three matches were completed on Saturday due to unfavourable weather. Nevertheless, first on the winner’s sheet was Andre Lopes who defeated Donnie Anderson 6-4 6-1 while Philbert Clarke got the better of Javed Khan who retired after losing the first set 3-6.
The final match of the day saw Ronald Murray downing Harvey Stoll 6-0 6-2.
Lopes, on Sunday, continued his winning ways, defeating Wayne Baker 6-0 6-2 to register his second triumph of the tournament. Viraj Sharma got into the act by getting the better of Kevin Matai 1-6 6-4 ( 10-8 ) as pre-tournament favourite Heimraj Resaul defeated Ronald Murray 6-4 6-2. The tournament will continue tomorrow.
