Three staff members of the Baroombar strip club in Georgetown were arrested and questioned after the police carried out a recent raid at the property and found 24 non-national women, many of whom have overstayed their time here.
In a press statement yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the foreign nationals, who are all women, were detained on October 24th at the North Road nightspot, which was raided as part of an investigation into a suspected trafficking in person ring.
Fifteen of the women are Venezuelan nationals, eight are from the Dominican Republic and one from Cuba, the ministry said, while noting that they were all detained for questioning and subsequently released on bail.
An investigation has since determined that the Dominicans and Cuban nationals have all overstayed their time in Guyana.
The statement added that three staff members of the business — a bartender, a security guard and a dispatcher — were also detained for questioning. They, too, were released on bail.
