The driver involved in the accident that claimed the life of Annandale youth Kellon Crawford has been told to report to the Vigilance Police Station daily until the police are further advised by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on possible charges against him.
The driver was arrested and released on station bail following the incident, according to the sister of the deceased, Anita, who said her family learnt from the police that the driver has to visit the police station on a daily basis.
Just moments before his demise, Crawford stopped at another accident where a fourteen-year-old was seriously injured in a hit and run. He was riding his bicycle along the road when he was allegedly struck down by a blue Spacio.
The 22-year-old deceased had left his Annandale home at 10:30pm on November 1st to visit a friend but never returned home. Crawford’s mother, Chandrawattie Dhanraj after visiting the Vigilance and Beterverwagting Police Stations for assistance in finding her son, was told to look for her son herself. A friend later told her to check the Georgetown Public Hospital as two accidents were said to have occurred the same Sunday night the man went missing.
On November 4th, Dhanraj confirmed her son’s death at the hospital.
Anita said her she learnt that after the accident, it took almost two hours before her brother was removed from the scene of the accident. By then he had already died and was removed by a hearse.
The dead man’s sister provided photos of her brother’s body lying on the road where the accident occurred. The photos, she said, were provided by eye witnesses of the accident. In the photos, the deceased was seen lying in a pool of blood. His left arm had been severed as a result of the impact.
A post-mortem has found that the youth died as a result of multiple head injuries, among other injuries.
Crawford and his family who hails from Number 1 Village, Corentyne, Berbice moved to live in Annandale nine years ago. His body was due to be transported to Corentyne last Saturday for burial.
