A porter was yesterday charged with the murder of security guard Bharrat Dass, who recently succumbed in hospital after he was found battered behind a city pharmacy.
Shawn Small, 25, of D’Andrade Street, Newtown, Kitty, made his appearance before Magistrate Faith McGusty in a Georgetown court, where the charge was read to him.
Small was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until December 8th, 2020, when the matter will be called again.
Dass, 43, of Lot 242 Forshaw Street, Georgetown, was attacked around 10 pm on November 5th, at Medi-Care Pharmacy on New Market Street.
His body was later discovered by one of his sons during an impromptu visit.
The deceased was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he later succumbed on November 11th.
Police previously said that the prime suspect was taken into custody and had admitted his involvement in the crime. The man reportedly told investigators that he asked Dass for money but he did not oblige him. As a result, the suspect allegedly dealt the deceased a blow to his head with a piece of wood, causing him to fall to the ground, after which he relieved him of the cash he had in his possession.
Dass, while conscious in the hospital, told his son that a security camera had captured the attack.
