Repairs on the collapsed Tiger Creek Bridge in Region Eight have been delayed.
This disclosure was made by the Ministry of Public Works’ Public Relations Officer Krest Cummings, who told Stabroek News that the contractor, CK Construction and Transportation Services has all the necessary equipment and personnel and the temporary bypass is already in place.
She said that while the contractor has set out the works, the delivery of logs to the site has been delayed as a result of heavy rainfall. However, she said, the contractor is currently exploring options to fast track the procurement of logs
The emergency repairs on the Tiger Creek Bridge are a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Public Work (MoPW) and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), with financing coming from GGMC and MoPW providing technical oversight with full time supervision from the Regional Engineer.
While the emergency works are ongoing at Tiger Creek, commuters are being advised to use an alternate route to Mahdia. The suggested route is an additional 28 kilometres, and it extends from the Konawaruk Road into Eagle Mountain Road, then into Mahdia.
The bridge collapsed on November 3rd while a heavy-duty truck was crossing. No one was injured.
