Cops seeking to find suspect in Kwebanna slaying

The suspect in the killing of Kwebanna resident Kamal Wilson, who was fatally chopped on October 26th, 2020 in the North West District village, is still to be apprehended.

Commander of Region One Khalid Mandal told Stabroek News that law enforcers are still to locate the man, who is a relative of the deceased.

The police had previously said the man was in custody.

Wilson, 35, was fatally chopped by the 23-year-old man when he went to check his generator, located about 20 feet away from his home. It was then that he noticed the relative approaching him with a cutlass in his hand.

A Guyana Police Force press release stated that the accused unexpectedly dealt Wilson several chops to his head, neck and shoulders, causing him to call out for help.

The release added that Wilson subsequently ran into his home and locked the door behind him, while the accused escaped on foot.

As a result of Wilson’s screams, his father subsequently responded and found the wounded man lying on the floor with several chop wounds and covered in blood.

Wilson was able to inform his father of the attack carried out by the family member. The police said the two men had no issues with each other before the attack.

Wilson was hospitalised but later succumbed while receiving treatment.
