Three men from the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara were yesterday nabbed along the Corentyne Public Road, after they allegedly stole a quantity of local and foreign currency from an Upper Corentyne boat owner.
A source told Stabroek News that the attack occurred after the boat owner, 42, reportedly went to two commercial banks in the region yesterday and withdrew cash to pay his employees.
The man proceeded to the Number 66 Fisheries Complex, where he took some of the cash, while the remainder was left in a bag in his parked car.
About ten minutes later, the boat owner exited and discovered that the lock of his front passenger’s side door was tampered with and the bag with the money was missing.
The man immediately made a report to the police and based on intelligence ranks intercepted a white car along the Liverpool Village, Corentyne, Public Road.
Stabroek News was told that during a search of the car, the suspected stolen cash was discovered, after which the driver and two occupants were immediately arrested.
The suspects in custody are said to be a businessman, 40, of Annandale, East Coast Demerara, a taxi driver, 56, of Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara, and a labourer, 38, of Grove, East Bank Demerara.
