Following the arrests of 116 persons, the Police Commander of Region Six, Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday stated that it is now time for action against those who transgress COVID-19 regulations.
Under operation COVI CURB, the arrests were made across Region Six between Friday and Saturday.
Based on a report from the police the persons were all placed on bail pending charges.
Commander Ramlakhan yesterday told Stabroek News that the operation will continue as he stressed that it is important that they act now before the COVID situation escalates further.
He explained that after arriving in the division he embarked on a mask distribution exercise, where he also sought to educate the public. As such, he stressed, that action will be taken now against those found breaching the restrictions.
As of yesterday morning the COVID-19 Dashboard had recorded a total of 127 cases in Region Six.
