Dear Editor,
When I look at Guyana I see two political parties saying the same thing. That is, “I am good, that makes you bad”.
The PPP says it is good and the PNC is bad; the PNC says that it is good and the PPP is bad.
Isn’t it about time both the PPP and PNC acknowledge that we have all fallen short in the sight of God (meaning we all have our faults) so we all need to be a bit more forgiving.
Has the PPP made mistakes in the past? Yes it has.
Has the PNC made mistakes in the past? Yes it has.
Can the PPP change? Yes it can.
Can the PNC change? Yes it can.
Anyone can change given the right motivation. The first step is to acknowledge that you have made mistakes. Then to not make those mistakes again. The alternative is to bury your head in the sand and keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
People tend to be afraid of being ridiculed and being ostracized so that is why they do not acknowledge their mistakes. Same with the PPP and PNC.
Being forgiving goes a long way in healing the Guyanese Nation.
Some would argue that a leopard cannot change its spots/stripes. I would argue that I am not a leopard in that people’s behaviour is conditioned by Nature (genes), Nurture (up-bringing) and Environment (company we keep). We cannot do much about our Nature but we can certainly do something about Nurture and Environment.
This is why I am a strong advocate for the PPP rebuilding itself by infusing “New Blood” into its Central Executive Committee.
By doing so it is bringing in new ways of thinking and doing things – Nurturing. And, changing its associates – Environment.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori
