Three men were yesterday charged with robbing a Corentyne boat owner of cash when they appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
They were each placed on $250,000 bail.
Quacy Fung-a-Fat, 40, a labourer of Lot 62 Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD); Afzal Khan, 58, a taxi driver of Lot 20 Chateau Margot, ECD and Jason Stanton, 32, a labourer of Lot 17 Samantha Point, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh, where they were charged with simple larceny committed on the boat owner on Friday last.
The three men pleaded not guilty to the charge. They were also ordered to lodge their passports and report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday.
They will return to the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court on December 23.
According to information gathered, the boat owner, 42, reportedly went to two commercial banks in the region, where he withdrew cash to pay his employees.
He then proceeded to the Number 66 Fisheries Complex where he took some cash into the building while the remainder was left in a bag in his parked car outside.
About ten minutes later, the boat owner exited the building and discovered that the bag was missing and his front passenger’s door lock had been tampered with.
The man immediately filed a police report and based on intelligence, ranks intercepted a white motorcar along the Liverpool Village, Coren-tyne, Public Road.
During a search of the car the suspected stolen cash was discovered.
