The town of Bartica in Region Seven is again a hotspot for COVID-19, according to the region’s health officials.
In a press release, the region’s Deputy Regional Health Officer (DRHO), Dr. Julian Clementson said that the town is now listed as a hotspot for COVID-19 infections as they have recorded a spike in cases over the past two weeks. The release which came through the Regional Democratic Council noted that a number of schoolchildren and teachers were included in that recent spike.
According to the DRHO, the total number of cases recorded so far in the region stands at 441, with some 58 active cases currently. Eleven deaths have been recorded in the region so far. “The recent death of a fellow Bartician as a result of COVID-19 infection is a harsh reminder that this disease is deadly and not to be taken lightly” the DRHO said in the release. Meanwhile, during a COVID-19 update, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony noted the number of new cases in Bartica and surrounding communities and said that as a result health authorities have placed some persons in institutional isolation and some in home isolation.
With that the minister noted that there are no symptomatic COVID-19 patients currently in the town and most of the persons that are being monitored are asymptomatic. He noted that they will continue to monitor the situation in the town and the surrounding communities in the region. The DRHO urged residents to revert to the former prevention measures that were observed at the beginning of the pandemic and to avoid social gatherings and only leave their homes when necessary.
