The Hilbert Foster led Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has been very active in recent times with the staging of a number of cricket activities on and off the field in the Ancient County.
The board’s careful stewardship has now guided it into a new terrain after it was able to secure a student/athlete scholarship for an Ablion Cricket Club player, Naeem Khan, to pursue studies in the area of Agriculture at the University of Guyana.
The board a few weeks ago had urged cricketers in the Berbice area to apply for the BCB/Minister Zulfikar Mustapha University of Guyana Scholarship to pursue studies in the agricultural field at the University. Following the review of applications, the BCB announced that it had identified Khan, who lives in Chesney and is a member of the Albion CC, as the first recipient of the award.
“…President Hilbert Foster congratulated the youth on becoming the first cricketer in the history of Berbice to ever receive a scholarship from the cricket board and urged him to set the standard very high. Foster also announced that other cricketers would benefit in 2021 as his administration was totally committed to assisting youths to fulfil their potentials in the classroom,” the board said via a release.
The first year of the scholarship is worth $200,000 and is subjected to renewal if the awardee maintains a GPA of 3.0.
