The police in Region Ten have arrested one of two men, who allegedly robbed a Linden couple of more than $4M in cash and other valuables shortly after they arrived home on Tuesday night.
The incident took place around 11pm.
The couple, a businessman and her husband, whose identities were not revealed by the police was robbed of $3.4M in cash, a quantity of raw gold valued $80,000 and a wedding band worth $80,000.
The robbery was allegedly carried out by two suspects.
The police in a statement last evening said that the couple conducted their business on Tuesday and upon returning home in the evening, they were confronted by the bandits.
The armed suspect, held the businesswoman at gunpoint and demanded that she hand over her belongings, the police said.
During the process, he discharged several rounds in the air before he relieved her of a bag containing the cash and other valuables.
The suspect escaped on a black XR motorcycle ridden by his accomplice.
The police were alerted and an investigation was launched.
Ranks of Region Ten acting on information received later went to a location in Mabura, Linden where they noticed a black XR motorcycle, without number plates parked.
A search was carried out in a nearby area which was covered in thick vegetation and one of the suspects were spotted. Upon noticing the ranks, he allegedly discharged several rounds. The police pursued him and he was apprehended.
The suspect was identified as a 30-year-old resident of Wismar, Linden. A search was conducted on his possession during which the police recovered $2.3M, two cellular phones, a .38 revolver and five rounds.
His accomplice is yet to be apprehended.
The police added that further investigation revealed that the said motorcycle was stolen from a 30-year-old plant operator of Buck Hall, Wismar Squatting area during a robbery on Monday night.
