The trial of Jaipaul Hitlall over the murder of Cor-nelia Ida senior, Bibi Keniez whom he is also accused of raping, commenced on Tuesday before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Georgetown.
The trial started shortly after a 12-member jury was empanelled to hear the matter.
The allegation against Hitlall called, “Latta” is that between October 2nd and 3rd, 2016, at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara he murdered the 65-year-old woman after raping her at her home.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
A voir dire (trial within a trial) is currently underway in the matter.
Hitlall is being represented by defence attorney Adrian Thompson, while the state’s case is being led by Prosecutor Tyra Bakker.
