The second of the three Time Trial events which was scheduled to be staged Sunday in Berbice has been postponed to December 13 due to unforeseen circumstances.
This is according to Racing Secretary of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), Malcolm Sonaram.
Fresh off the first Time Trial event last Sunday, the nation’s best wheelsmen were once again gearing up to battle against the clock and their rivals in three days.
They will just have to wait a little while longer.
According to Sonaram, the scheduled third leg of the fixture will still be held in Linden on December 6, essentially making the Berbice leg the grand finale.
In the Ancient County, competition will start at 09:00hrs in front of Benjamin Sport and Fitness Centre at Fyrish, proceed along the Number 19 road and end at the GUYOIL gas station at Palmyra.
The race in Linden will also start at the same time at Amelia’s Ward (KD&J Supermarket) to Moblissa Hill and back.
The first leg, held last Sunday from Sparendaam to the Kitty roundabout and back to the COVID-19 Hospital at Liliendaal, saw elite sprinter, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams providing a reminder of his pedigree with a victory.
In the first local competitive event since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down racing in mid-March, Williams was a class above the rest of the 33 starters, setting a time of 11m:18.39s on the flat 5-mile course.
Star cyclists, Jamual John (11:26.04) and Brighton John (11:38.70) joined Williams on the podium.
Marcus Keiler (11:47.26), Kwame Ridley (12:05.92) and Alex Mendes (12:09.61) rounded out the top six finishers.
Williams, a native of Linden will be aiming for a repeat in his backyard. (Emmerson Campbell)
