Lasheena Morgow, the woman who fatally stabbed her brother after an attempt to rescue her sister-in-law from being abused by him, was on Thursday granted bail after being charged with manslaughter.
Morgow, a 31-year-old farmer of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to her. She was charged with unlawfully killing Alex Morgow on November 22, at Parika Backdam.
She was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 and ordered to return to court on December 16th, 2020, for the filing of statements.
The Guyana Police Force said that the fatal confrontation occurred around 5.30 pm on Sunday, when Lasheena returned home with the wife of the deceased.
In a statement, the force said the now deceased man and his wife, Joyann Atkinson, had an argument over a meal she prepared for him, which allegedly resulted in him pushing her to the ground and then slapping and kicking her.
Lasheena, the force added, tried to intervene and questioned the actions of her brother and subsequently ended up in an argument with the man, who allegedly pushed her.
Lasheena then ran to the kitchen, armed herself with a knife and dealt her brother a stab to the left side of his chest.
The deceased later stumbled outside and fell downstairs.
An alarm was raised and the police were contacted and Lasheena was arrested.
The statement explained that a search uncovered the knife used by the woman in a handbag.
Meanwhile, Atkinson previously told this newspaper that Lasheena shoved her brother and stepped up to him to seemingly fight, after questioning how he was treating his wife.
She added that the now dead man just pushed Lasheena away and the two continued to argue for some time, before the stabbing occurred.
