Dear Editor,
It is almost three weeks now that the East Bank hire cars park has been cut by half leaving operators struggling for survival. This matter has been brought to the attention of the town clerk, the Mayor of Georgetown and the senior police of Brickdam Station with only promises being made to look into the matter but up to now nothing has been done.
If the police claim we have been removed to clear the road then we invite the relevant authorities to see that roadside beer gardens have been set up on the very spot the cars were forced out of. These very beer gardens comprise of 10 ×10 tents, old fridges and benches to sit on, making the area look like a shanty town.
We are asking the relevant authorities is it a deliberate act to remove us to accommodate more road side vending?
These vendors cause more confusion on the road than we the short drop hire car drivers.
Please, someone do something for us in this time when Guyana is going through the Covid-19 crisis and Christmas is near.
Help us to survive.
Yours faithfully,
