A Kumaka businesswoman and her teenage son have been taken into custody after being implicated in the theft of $700,000 from a lumberyard manager.
The Guyana Police Force said Mario Gamell, 29, of Hosororo, North West District, who is a manager of Gamell’s Lumber Yard, left a bag with the cash at a shop located at Kumaka Water Front on Saturday.
According to the police, at about 6.45 pm on November 28th, 2020, Gamell paid his workers and allegedly had $765, 000 left in his possession, which he placed in a bag before heading to a shop at Kumaka Water Front.
He has said that he placed the bag on the counter next to him and later left for home, leaving the bag behind.
After realising that he had forgotten the bag, police said Gamell returned to the shop and discovered that the bag was missing.
Efforts made to retrieve the bag led to the teen stating that he removed the bag and took it to his mother, the businesswoman. Gamell then contacted the businesswoman, who then handed over the bag, in which only $65,000 was found.
A report was subsequently made to the police, resulting in the two accused being held.
