A man is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after a crash along the Stanleytown Public Road, West Bank Demerara.
Lucius Welcome, 40, of Stanleytown, was riding a motorcycle north along the western side of the road when he crashed into a car, PXX 7172, and landed some distance away along the western parapet.
A police statement said the driver of the car, a 29-year-old Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara resident, told police officers that he was stationary on the eastern side of Stanleytown Public Road, facing south, when he looked south then north and did not see any vehicle coming or going and decided to turn west in order to proceed north.
However, upon doing so Welcome, who was proceeding north along the western side of the road on motorcycle CJ 6550 rode into the left side of his front fender, hit the windscreen and then landed some distance away along the western parapet.
The statement added that he was picked up by public-spirited persons in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, which then transferred him to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The driver of the car is presently in custody assisting with the investigation, the police added.
