General Marine Masters registered their first win of the Guyana Cricket Board/ Tropical Spring Over-40 T20 tournament by inflicting a 97-run defeat on Sarjoo Tigers yesterday at the Enmore Community Centre ground.
The Berbice Zone final round match up saw General Marine winning the toss and electing to take first strike under glorious sunshine. General Marines posted 133 for eight from their allotted overs before dismantling Tigers for a disappointing 36 in 11.5 overs.
Tigers paid the price for dropping Ramnarine Ramnauth on 12 at cover as he went on to make 36. His innings featured two boundaries before he was run out.
The right hander shared a 45-run partnership for the third wicket alongside Diaram Hemraj who made 30 before he was trapped leg before wicket off Frank Sanichara.
General Marines lost their way in the back end of the innings as they lost four wickets via run out and a late fightback from Orin Bailey who bagged two for nine. Loose bowling from Tigers resulted in 26 extras being gifted to General Marines.
In the chase, General Marines were disciplined in their bowling efforts as Tigers seemed toothless. Kamchand Persaud removed Sanichara and Gopaul Dindyal who both failed to trouble the scores as Tigers slipped to 10 for four by the end of the fourth over.
Rohan Sarjoo belted two boundaries on his way to a top score of 13 but a top edge sailing comfortably towards point ended his stint at the crease as well as the resistance. Surendra Hiralall toiled for his eight runs while Bailey batted long for his three runs. However, wickets kept tumbling with Hemraj returning to take two wickets in a run-less final over. Winston London and Deodat Hemraj also bagged two wickets.
Action in the Berbice Zone will continue with Jai Hind taking on West Berbice Masters at Jai Hind on Saturday followed by quarter-final action at the same venue on Sunday.
