Yogeshwar Kumar, the 34-year-old man who police say stabbed 16-year-old Sanesha Lall to death at her Richmond Housing Scheme home last month and then tried to end his own life, was yesterday charged with murder.
Kumar, called ‘Fat Boy’ or ‘Fat Man,’ of Lot 17 Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast, was arraigned at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him by Magistrate Esther Sam.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until December 29th, 2020 for statements.
Police had said that Kumar, who wanted to pursue a relationship with Lall, turned up at the house, where he stabbed her multiple times about her body before escaping in a minibus that was parked outside.
Lall was later taken to the Suddie Hospital and was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
A police report had said that about 12.20 pm, acting on information received, Kumar was arrested at Better Hope Backdam, Essequibo Coast, where he told ranks that he had consumed a poisonous substance. He was admitted under guard to the Suddie Hospital and was recently discharged after a three-week stay.
A search of his vehicle uncovered a black ‘Rambo’ knife under the left passenger-side seat.
A post-mortem examination had revealed that Lall died as a result of multiple stab wounds.
