A pump attendant of Richmond Village, Essequibo Coast, was found dead in a trench at the front of his home yesterday.
The Guyana Police Force said Pooran Kumar Silas, 56, is suspected to have drowned.
Police enquiries reveal-ed that the deceased left home on Thursday and headed to a shop in Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, with the intention of drinking.
According to the dead man’s sister, he returned home on the same date at about 9pm.
However, on the following day at 6am, his body was discovered in a trench at the front of his home by neighbours on the eastern side of Richmond Public Road.
The report added that a report was subsequently made at the Anna Regina Police Station, where the body was examined by police for marks of violence.
The body was later escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was seen by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be done shortly.
