Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club’s Marvan Prashad stood out as the Berbice Cricket Board held its first 50-overs Under-19 trial match yesterday at the Albion Sports Complex ground.
Prashad showed he was a cut above the rest with his exemplification of patience and elegant cover shots. The right-hander struck three boundaries and ran well between the wickets in making 41 not out before rain ended his innings.
The 17-year-old rotated the strike well and shared in a half century partnership with Shamal Angel who made 25 before holing out to Aaron Beharry at long on off of Jeremy Sandhia.
Jonathan Rampersaud was left stranded on 10 not out when the rains came after looking set with a classy cover-drive.
Fawaz Gaffor (15) and Rampertab Ramnauth (11) had starts but failed to convert as the second side reached 110 for four in 36 overs.
In the first innings, the first side made 155 with 15 batters being used. Seon Glasgow managed two fours in his 21-run innings while Abdool Ramsamy also made 21 before being caught and bowled by his brother, Zeynul.
Ricardo Ramdehol (18) was patient in his innings while Nigel Deodat made a cautious 15.
Left-arm spinner, Gourav Ramesh was the pick of the bowlers with two for eight while Rampersaud and Angel bagged two wickets each for 11 and 20 runs respectively. Izam Shazam and Akash Heeralall also had two wickets.
Berbice Cricket Board president, Hilbert Foster, said that after today’s match the squad will be trimmed before a 13-man per side match unfolds ahead of the Guyana Cricket Board Inter-County Under-19 tournament.
