Two weeks after placing third in the first Time-Trial event in the city, Jamaul John took his talents to Linden and dominated his arch rivals, Jamual John and Marlon `Fishy’ Williams who had to settle for second and third in that order.
Williams ,who won the first time-trial, was looking for a repeat in his hometown, however, John spoilt his plans on the hilly, 13- mile trek.
Racing from Amelia’s Ward (KD&J Supermarket) to Moblissa Hill and back, the national cyclist, provided a reminder of his climbing and sprinting pedigree.
In the second local competitive event since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down racing in mid-March, the We Stand United club standout was a class above the rest of the 33 starters, setting a blistering time of 32m:34s on the course.
His namesake John finished second once again in 34m.08s, while Williams completed the podium 22 seconds later.
Marcus Keiler (35:47s), Segun Hubbard (36:18s) and Alex Mendes (37:00s) rounded out the top six finishers.
Linden’s Clivecia Spencer was the top female rider on the breezy day, besting Suzanne Hamilton and Denise Jeffrey in that order.
The cyclists will now turn their attention to the final stage in Berbice on Sunday. The top three of each Time Trial will be rewarded, along with the overall top six.
Organisers followed a strict anti-coronavirus protocol, with control measures in place including riders starting one by one two minutes apart and no roadside audience. All cyclists were required to take a temperature test and officials were equipped with face masks for distribution.
