Dear Editor,
Firstly, I wish to remind the Hon. Minister of Home Affairs that it was on the 6 September,2020 that Joel and Isaiah were murdered in no ordinary fashion but in the most cruel, dreadful, gruesome and barbaric form, which to some has never been heard of on these local shores of our beloved Guyana.
As the elected representative of the people I pen this missive to highlight my grave dissatisfaction at the slothful investigations. The police waited two weeks after the discovery of the bodies before they could launch a physical search for tangible evidence at the suspected crime scene.
Both the Minister of Home Affairs and the President of Guyana committed to ensuring justice is realized in these matter by having the best detectives and forensic teams come to Guyana and investigate the murder cases. To date both the Minister and President have failed their promises and the cases as a whole.
Additionally, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) seems indecisive at best in handling the cases regarding the murder of Joel and Isaiah Henry and Haresh Singh. After weeks of investigation by the GPF, which the Minister of Home Affairs has oversight for, nothing substantial was unearthed, reported to the family nor public. This very GPF was supported by a team out of CARICOM, the Regional Security System, to assist in a swift and conclusive investigation.
Editor, the Minister has committed to ensuring that the government through its crime fighting arm the GPF would work tirelessly to ensure these murders are quickly solved and justice is done for the families of the Henrys and Singh. It is now 93 days (as of writing this) after the discovery of the first two bodies and no file has been prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, no charges have been made and further no substantial evidence has been unearthed to propel this case and more so convince the families and people of this nation that the case is actually going somewhere.
I write echoing the sentiments of the families of the Henrys, Singh and thousands of other Guyanese like myself to conclude that this matter has now become another unsolved and cold case that would leave families in unending grief and pain with no justice for the victims.
As such, I sound my voice in the diligent call for justice to bring closure to the murder of the three lads and ask that the Minister of Home Affairs be truthful to his promise to ensuring that justice is met for the families and the Guyanese people. He needs to advise the President and cabinet of the need for international forensic support and expertise in bringing these cases to a closure.
Further to that, allow the GPF to complete its work and stop playing cheap political games over the lives of Guyanese. Region #5 and Guyana hold the subject Minister and the PPP administration accountable for justice and closure to the murders of Joel and Isaiah Henry and Haresh Singh.
