At approximately 10.03 pm yesterday, JetBlue officially commenced nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International (CJIA) with the first roundtrip flight arriving back in New York this morning.
The new service operates up to four times weekly on JetBlue’s Airbus A321neo aircraft.
One hundred and fifty passengers were on board JetBlue’s first official flight to Guyana, according to a release today from CJIA.
“JetBlue’s arrival in Guyana introduces our low fares and award-winning service to another new market in the Caribbean and Latin America where customers have long faced high prices and little competition,” said Andrea Lusso, vice president network planning, JetBlue. “We remain committed to this important region of our network and continue to connect more travelers with the people and places they want to see.”
“We are pleased to welcome JetBlue to our beautiful country, Guyana,” said Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, according to the release. “We are confident that their entry into the local market will help to advance the aviation sector, especially at a time when the sector is looking to rebuild, in the midst of this global pandemic. This latest investment by JetBlue – even in the current environment – also speaks to the level of confidence the airlines has placed on our country as a lucrative destination of choice.”
JetBlue on October 27 this year announced a revised launch timeline for new nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Georgetown, Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO).
A release from JetBlue said that flights will initially operate up to four times weekly on JetBlue’s new Airbus A321neo aircraft beginning December 11, 2020.
“JetBlue is a leading airline in Latin America and the Caribbean and we remain committed to expanding our route map to Guyana as demand returns and border restrictions ease across the region,” said Andrea Lusso, vice president route planning. “Guyana service introduces a diverse and underserved destination to the JetBlue route map, and a very important one for New York City. Our nonstop service will benefit a variety of travelers – especially those visiting friends and relatives – and provide our industry-leading experience to travelers this holiday season.”
The new nonstop flights between New York City and Georgetown will be made possible by the A321neo’s extended range and fuel efficiency.
