The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Friday found just over 111.7 pounds of cannabis in a hire car at Moleson Creek and have arrested two persons in connection to the bust.
In a press release on Friday night, CANU stated that two men are in custody as investigations are ongoing. The Unit identified one of the two persons in custody as 33-year-old Imran Johara, a hire car driver of Line Path C Corentyne, Berbice. CANU did not provide any information in relation to the other young man who was arrested.
According to the Unit, officers conducted a narcotic operation in the Moleson Creek, Corentyne, Berbice where they intercepted motor car HC 9071, which was occupied by Johara who was the driver along with one other passenger.
When officers searched the car in the presence of the passengers, several parcels of cannabis were found in the vehicle and they amounted to 50.664 kilogrammes of cannabis, equivalent to 111.7 pounds.
CANU says that investigations into the matter are still ongoing and it will continue conducting narcotic operations in all regions of Guyana.
