A Corriverton cyclist died while receiving medical attention at the Skeldon Public Hospital after he was involved in an accident along the Springlands Public Road around 11.30 am yesterday.
Dead is Purshotam Tilak, also known as `Navin’, 39, of Albert Street, Corriverton.
According to information gathered, Tilak was proceeding towards the Skeldon Market when he came into contact with mini bus, BYY 4269.
As of yesterday afternoon, the driver of the bus, Zameer Ali, of Albion, Corentyne, remained in police custody assisting with the investigation.
His sister, Zaheeda Ali, 22, an eyewitness, said, “We went at the food place Faheeda and we just pull off at a very slow rate and this guy on the bicycle just sway in front the bus. By time we could a see him he already hit the bus”.
She said they immediately stopped when they noticed that the man was bleeding from his nose and ears.
He was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Chitranie Samlall, 58, the mother of the deceased, relayed that her son left home earlier in the morning to go to purchase cakes.
She said a short while after she received a message that her son was involved in an accident “but by time me reach the hospital he dead”.
Tilak’s mother described him as a “very kind and good person”.
