Steffon Williams, the suspect in the robbery of a schoolboy, was remanded to prison last Thursday on a separate charge.
A Bagotville, West Bank Demerara labourer was on Thursday remanded to prison after he was charged with robbery.
Williams, also known as “Candy Man”, 24, of Lot 11, Bagotville appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
Williams is charged with robbing Narendra Persaud, a 20 year-old labourer of Independence Street, La Grange, also on the West Bank, on December 4th.
He was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to prison until December 30th, 2020, for fixture and report.
Meanwhile, Williams is also accused but has not been charged over the robbery of a 14-year-old school boy, of Independence Street, La Grange. That attack occurred on December 8th, at about 6.45 pm.
A police report said Williams, while in the company of three others, robbed the child of a cellular phone and sim card, valued at $45,000 in total.
Police enquiries disclosed that at approximately 8.05 pm, the victim went to the head of Independence Street to purchase food for his dog when the suspects, including Williams, walked up to him from an unknown direction.
The report added that Williams then snatched the victim’s phone from him before they all escaped in a southern direction along La Grange Public road.
An alarm was raised and public-spirited persons managed to capture Williams after which they escorted him to the La Grange police station and placed him in custody.
Checks were made to locate the other suspects but they proved futile.
