Dear Editor,
I visited the Netherlands earlier this year and was informed that Guyana has no representative there. A few thousand Guyanese live there and they encounter problems when they need to notarize documents – they have to go to Brussels which is about a four-hour drive from Amsterdam.
I am suggesting that the government consider opening a consulate there. Guyana has a long history with Holland and I understand there are many NGO’s that would be willing to help in various ways. Holland is noted for construction and these companies can be better served if they can have easier access in getting information and documents from a Consulate in Amsterdam. Also, a Consulate in Amsterdam can serve the adjacent countries such as Germany, France, Switzerland, etc.
I suggest that the Guyana government give serious consideration to establishing a Consulate there.
Yours faithfully,
Robert Narine
