LAUNCESTON, Australia, CMC – Nicholas Pooran snared a couple of catches behind the stumps but rain ruined his Big Bash debut for Melbourne Stars as the contest against Perth Scorchers at Aurora Oval finished in a no result here yesterday.
Chasing a revised target of 76 off six overs after rain ended the Scorchers innings prematurely on 158 for six after 17 overs and then forced a lengthy delay, Stars had reached 10 for one when the rain returned to end the encounter, leaving both teams to take away two points.
Pooran’s West Indies teammate, Andre Fletcher, was unbeaten on six after losing opening partner Marcus Stoinis to the first ball of the second over, lbw to fast bowler Jhye Richardson for four.
With drizzles already around, Pooran was beginning to make his way to the crease when the rain got increasingly heavier, forcing players from the field never to return.
Earlier, Colin Munro top-scored with 49 off 36 balls while Ashton Turner slammed a 17-ball 39 and Joe Clarke, 34, as Scorchers made decent headway after being sent in.
Josh Inglis fell early for seven in the third over with 14 on the board before Munro anchored two key partnerships to revive the innings.
The left-handed Munro, who plays for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, punched five fours and a six as he posted 49 for the second wicket with Clarke who belted a four and three sixes in a 14-ball cameo.
When Clarke and Mitchell Marsh (0) fell in successive deliveries at the start of the eighth over from seamer Liam Hatcher (2-17), Munro combined with Turner to put on a further 70 for the fourth with Turner who blasted five sixes before falling to Pooran’s second catch of the innings off left-arm spinner Nic Maddinson (2-8) in the 13th over.
