The Jagmohan family has embarked on an initiative to develop a gated luxury community at Windsor Castle on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two.
The real estate project, named Jagsville, will be the first of its kind to be established in the Cinderella Country and will feature 171 house lots as well as a pool, playground and tennis court.
It is estimated to cost $900 million. According to Thakur Samlall, one of the managers involved in the project, the lots in the community, which will range from 5,000 square feet to 43,560 square feet will be available for hire purchase through Republic Bank, Demerara Mutual, GBTI, and the New Building Society, once persons qualify.
Fifty per cent of the house lots will be made available to the government under a private-public-partnership. Tamesh Jagmohan, the project principal, disclosed during a sod-turning ceremony that the project took three years to get approved. It finally got the green light on December 10 and now the family intends to engage all the necessary agencies for the housing project to move ahead. Jagmohan told this newspaper that the approval was finally granted by the Anna Regina town council after it was requested back in 2017. He noted that it was “ridiculously too long” of a wait and that persons could’ve already taken up residency during that time.
He added, “I am extremely excited especially when this project will allow me to add more and more jobs where they are needed in the Essequibo Coast.” During the ceremony it was mentioned that contractors have already been engaged and it is envisioned that this initiative will create numerous jobs for persons living on the Essequibo Coast during the construction phase. Jagmohan explained that it is their intent to have the lots be easily accessible for purchasers.
Jagmohan also informed this newspaper that there has been a donation of 15,000 masks, 1,000 packages of rice (compliments of the S. Jagmohan & Sons Rice Industry Company Limited) and thousands of 1000 mg vitamin C tablets, to the Region to help during the coronavirus pandemic.
