Fitz Randolph Josiah was on Wednesday sentenced to 11 ½ years in jail after pleading guilty to the killing of his 14-year-old stepdaughter in 2013.
Josiah, 70, was sentenced by Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Georgetown after he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. He was initially indicted for murder.
Justice Singh ordered that the time spent on remand by Josiah be deducted from his sentence sentencing.
The state was represented by prosecutors Teriq Mohammed and Natasha Backer.
It was the prosecution’s case that on April 24th, 2013, Josiah stabbed Samuels multiple times at Plastic City, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
It was reported then that Josiah and the deceased were engaged in a verbal confrontation, which escalated to the point where she was fatally stabbed.
The report also shared that Josiah and Samuels had been involved in several verbal clashes prior to her death, during which he made threats to take her life.
Her mother, Mildred Josiah, was also slashed on her left arm in the attack.
Josiah had fled the house but was held by public-spirited citizens and later handed over to the police.
