In keeping with the government’s focus to provide housing solutions for all Guyanese, the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal along with Minister within the Ministry, Susan Rodrigues on Wednesday distributed 91 land titles to residents of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
According to a release from the Office of the President, the distribution of the titles was based on a commitment made by President Irfaan Ali during an outreach at the RDC office in Anna Regina. At that visit the president aimed to have 80 titles distributed to persons who were waiting for years.
“Today alone, just with some pushing, we have 80 titles that are now available to people that were in the system for years; five years, six years, seven years… [Next week] these 80 titles will be available to the people,” the Head of State had explained.
As a result, Croal and Rodrigues returned on Wednesday to distribute the titles to residents. A bit of extra effort by ministry officials enabled the ministers to deliver an additional 11.
Croal told the gathering at the distribution exercise that his ministry’s current focus is to provide efficient, timely and sustainable housing solutions for all Guyanese, while Rodrigues urged the recipients to make the best of their allocations and told them there is much more to come in the housing sector over the next five years.
The two ministers spoke with residents individually and as a group to answer queries relating to housing issues, the release added.
