—despite efforts of Barnwell, Griffith
Enterprising knocks from Guyanese Trevon Griffith and Christopher Barnwell, failed to secure championship honours for 22 Yards who went down to Atlanta Paramveers by 10 runs in the final of the 2020 Edition of the U.S Open T20 tournament, Sunday at the Central Broward Regional Park.
Chasing, 183 to lift the championship cup, 22 Yards could only muster 172 for seven from their allotted 20 overs with Griffith (42) who shared in a 64-run opening stand with Ahad Malek (28) and Barnwell (35), doing the bulk of the scoring. South African International player Wayne Parnell who dismissed Griffith, was the pick of the bowlers for the Atlanta side with figures of 2-27 as Evroy Dyer (1-41) and Chris Gayle (1-23) chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Earlier in the day, Atlanta Paramveers, reached the mammoth total on the back of a 50-ball 70 from West Indies batsman Johnson Charles who carved nine fours and a maximum. He got able support from Gayle who fell one short of a half century as Sherfane Rutherford picked up 3 for 24 to lead 22 Yard’s bowling effort. Ashmead Nedd (1-18) was tidy once again while Jasdeep Singh (1-47) and Barnwell (1-49) were on the expensive side.
