Murdered accused recaptured after brief flight from Lusignan Prison

Escaped prisoner, Ishaka John

The police last evening recaptured a prisoner following his brief escape from the Lusignan Prison during the wee hours of yesterday morning.

The prisoner who has been identified as 25-year-old Ishaka John, a former block maker of Lot 109 ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, was said to have escaped the Lusignan Prison Holding Bay sometime between 2am and 2.20am yesterday. John was spotted last night at 8.15pm at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. He was immediately arrested by ranks on a mobile police patrol.

Early yesterday morning, John was seen by three ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service attempting to escape. Several shots were reportedly fired in an effort to apprehend him but he continued running in an easterly direction between towers four, five and six.
