Persons travelling to Region Eight will soon be able to use the nearly fully reconstructed Tiger Creek Bridge, some two months after it collapsed.
This development was disclosed on Thursday by a representative of the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW).
“The bridge is almost complete. It only requires some bracing at the mid span and some additional filling at the approaches. These should be completed by December 31,” the representative informed Stabroek News.
Travel along the bridge should resume subsequent to its completion.
The key Potaro-Siparuni bridge collapsed on November 3 while a heavy-duty truck was making its way across. No one was injured. At the time, Regional Engineer, Wendell St Pierre, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that from a preliminary assessment the bridge appears to have collapsed due to a damaged beam.
While the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) had crafted a three-week timeline for the completion of emergency works on the bridge, progress was severely delayed for more than a month by heavy seasonal rainfall in the area.
While the bridge was undergoing reconstruction works, a temporary bypass was used by persons traversing the area.
