The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is investigating the suspected suicide of a 13-year-old girl, of Timehri, East Bank Demerara, which occurred yesterday afternoon.
In a statement, the GPF said the teenager left her home for an unknown destination at about 3pm on Monday and did not return. However, at about 5.30 am yesterday, her father, a 45-year-old labourer, discovered her hanging from a tree at the back of their yard. The police were alerted and the teen’s body was examined but no marks of violence were found.
Her body was afterwards escorted to the Georgetown Hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
A post-mortem examination has been scheduled.
