General Manager of the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) Rawlston Adams today declined to comment on the discovery that he approved the purchase of an over $800,000 bracelet for himself with money from the DHB.

This discovery was made during an investigation of the Asphalt Plant commissioned by the PPP/C government.

A summary of the findings of the report released by the Ministry of Public Works today said:

“One of the startling discoveries found by the team, was that a bracelet was purchased in excess of $800,000 for the General Manager of the Demerara Harbour Bridge. The permission for the purchase was also approved by the General Manager. The purchase was said to have been made in November last year for the celebration of International Men’s Day. Gifts were also purchased for other members of staff to commemorate the day”.

When contacted by Stabroek News today for comment, Adams said he had none but that the board of the DHB would issue a statement on the matter.

“We provided our comments during the investigation and it is in the report but that, it seems, was played down. We will be addressing the issue and the Board will make some comments.

“I have not seen the report but we will be reviewing it.

“As I said, we will be making some comments and once we get copies of the report, those comments will be drafted at the managerial level and we will provide any other information that they may need”.

Asked if he would return the bracelet to the state if it was found that it was improperly procured, he repeated that  he would “provide any information on the matter if asked.”
