Junior Public Works Minister Deodat Indar yesterday urged businesses to trust the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government, which he said would return the economy back to a position of strength.
Indar made the call at the official opening of Caribbean Motor Spares’ second branch at Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Minister within the Ministry of Housing Susan Rodrigues was also in attendance at the event.
During brief remarks, Indar said he was pleased to see private sector business blooming. “Our government focuses on the private sector economy because it is one that builds a nation quickly. The Grove/ Diamond area is very populated and I am sure, this business will give back to the community, in terms of employment,” the Department of Public Information (DPI) quoted Indar as saying at the opening. He then encouraged other business to trust the PPP/C government, while adding that it will ensure that the economy bounces back.
In this regard, Rodrigues acknowledged that the private sector has a role to play, while noting that Guyana’s economy has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic and a “series of events.”
“The Private Sector is a stakeholder to the government and we would always grant incentives, change the laws and often look into the needs to always boost this industry,” she stated.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Caribbean Auto Spares Hardial Doobay revealed that the business was founded in 2012 and is presently one of the leading retailers and distributor of auto parts in Guyana. “Our partners are worldwide and customers are from all parts of Guyana and this branch will serve those going to Linden. I must announce that in late January we will be opening a third branch in Georgetown to better serve and contribute to the development of the private sector,” he said.
Employees, longstanding business partners and top customers of the company were given tokens of appreciation at the ceremony.
