Two men lost their lives in a head on collision along the Line Path Public Road, Corentyne last evening.
The accident occurred just after 7 pm when a vehicle driven by Sheik Mahmood, 38, a businessman of Lot 561 Number 76 village, Corentyne, collided with a vehicle driven by Churman Megnat, 26, of Lot 12 Line Path, Corentyne.
Mahmood was driving a car, PYY 7581, while Megnat was driving a car, PLL 4090, with Nimrod Persaud, 36, a hire car driver of Lot 29 Line Path, Corentyne as his passenger.
Stabroek News was told the two cars were proceeding in opposite directions and it is alleged by Mahmood that Megnat swerved into his lane, causing the head on collision.
As a result of the collision, one car landed into a nearby drain, while the other came to an abrupt halt on the road shoulders.
Persons in the area last evening said that both cars had extensive damage.
Mahmood, Megnat and Persaud all suffered injuries about their bodies as a result of the collision and were rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where Megnat and Persaud were pronounced dead on arrival. Up to press time, Mahmood remained in the hospital’s emergency unit receiving medical attention. His condition was listed as stable.
Police have launched an investigation.
